It took a record-breaking construction site, a network of exclusively local suppliers and only 10 months to build the new headquarters of STIGA, one of the European leaders in the production and distribution of lawn mowers and powered garden equipment.
Over 1 million machines sold in 70 countries every year, a turnover of around €500 million, more than 80 years of history and 1750 employees worldwide, 600 of whom based in the Treviso province between Castelfranco (approx.. 200) and Resana/Campigo (approx. 400), with seasonal peaks reaching over 800 employees: this, in short, is STIGA. Spread over three floors and occupying an area of 2500 sqm, the new STIGA headquarters inaugurated today were built within the company’s premises in Castelfranco Veneto.
Georg Metz, Group CEO, stated: “We are most grateful to move now into the new modern home of our team, allowing us to explore all the manifold ideas and plans to continue the exceptional growth of our Group in a most functional, environmentally friendly space. Success is made by people and our great team needs room to explore their ideas and to exploit their talent, all meant to enthuse our customers.” He added: “Our sincerest thanks go to our shareholders and Board allowing us to invest into this new STIGA home, and to the authorities and the construction partners without whom we would not have been able to build the new HQ in the given very short time.”
Over 80% of the materials used for the building are recyclable, in line with the company’s values, its focus on technology and innovation, and its respectful approach to the environment and the community. The building is powered by a photovoltaic system and equipped with a pulsed-air heating system with internal recycling and a highly energy-efficient 1000 sqm glass facade. The planning phase began with an analysis of the area’s climate conditions, which led to the creation of an “environmental matrix” envisaging seasonal strategies to be applied all year long. The construction foresaw the partial use of prefabricated components, whereas all materials were sourced from local companies based within 30km from the new headquarters. After the cornerstone was laid on 29 June 2017, the construction began on 21 August 2017 and ended after only 300 days on 21 June 2018, two months ahead of schedule.
“When we began thinking of the project for our new headquarters – said Franco Novello, Senior Vice President Integrated Operation – we immediately saw an opportunity to implement many of our corporate values into the new structure. Indeed, rationality, efficiency, environmental and people sustainability, and technology innovation are some of the values embodied both by STIGA products and by our finished office building. The headquarters have been conceived to create a pleasant and convivial working space, promoting a modern and dynamic exchange of information and ideas among those working in the building every day. The space design also simplifies the transit of people within the company and its elements, such as production departments, individual offices, and the management team alike, with consequent time savings and increased work efficiency. However, at the core of every company’s business is another important exchange, the one taking place with the external world. That’s why we put emphasis on transparency and communication, using glass wherever possible and displaying our open, welcoming nature to those interacting with STIGA and sharing its values. Furthermore, our attention focused almost naturally upon the issues of energy efficiency and sustainability. These values, which now are a permanent feature of all STIGA products, were adopted in our headquarters project, too.”
Massimo Bottacin, Vice President Group HR and ICT, added, “As an investment, the new headquarters testify to the company’s current excellent results and ambitious plans for the future. Indeed, the building design has taken into account STIGA’s corporate development plan and the need to find room for new colleagues and partners. For some time now we have been expanding our workforce and hiring new people across various functions, so as to strengthen our structure and our expertise. We expect this process to continue in the next few years and we hope to find ourselves in the situation of having to further expand our premises very soon!”
STIGA is one of the top ten companies in the Treviso province in terms of turnover. At the same time, it is also the premium label within a portfolio of five brands, which are Alpina, Mountfield, Atco and Castelgarden.
The new premises are located at Via del Lavoro 6 in Castelfranco Veneto, where the Group was originally established as Castelgarden SpA and later as Global Garden Products Group. In 2017, STIGA eventually took its current name after the Group’s leading brand.
Today STIGA obtains more than 90% of its total revenue outside Italy, across Europe’s largest markets as well as in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South America. STIGA’s key sales channels are traditional trade and home centers, together with the recently introduced fast-growing e-commerce channel, which already accounts for more than 5% of the Group sales.
The mission of STIGA is to cater for all gardeners – those who look for an easy-to-use and efficient machine as well as those who live gardening as a passion for life and want the best.
The continuous investments in research and development are aimed at providing them with the ideal equipment for every possible gardening need and space.
